Importance of Finishes
When you embark on either a major or small home renovation you're going to have some big decisions to make. Sugar Valley Builders is here to help you make these big decisions. We are known for our remodels and structural repairs, but to really make a home or just a single room look the way you want it, you need the right finishes. Luckily, design is our passion! There is no doubt finishes are important when it comes to remodeling. You should always keep this in mind when considering a remodel. Depending on your priorities and your budget, sometimes smaller is better if it means you get all the finishes you want.
Finishes to consider are; paint color, tile, backsplash, cabinets, counters, flooring, lighting, windows, doors, trim, and so on.

Things to Consider When Choosing Finishes
The first and most obvious factor that can help you make your decision on a finish is if you like how it looks. Everyone has their own taste and certain finishes may jump out to you as something you really like. However, that still might not be a good enough reason alone to choose it. You should also consider these four factors listed below.
Durability: If you have a busy household full of children and pets, you may want to choose more durable finishes that can handle the wear and tear. Think about foot traffic, food and water spillage, resistance to heat, scratches, and generally how hard you and your family would be on it. Are you able to maintain it? What is your commitment level to maintenance?
Aesthetics: You want to choose finishes that are aesthetically pleasing to you and that fit in well with your home's overall design theme. A lot of things could play into this including colors, texture, patterns, and style.
Safety: Safety is something you may want to consider if, for example, you live with someone with mobility issues. In this case, you may want to choose flooring such as carpet which is slip-resistant and soft to walk on. If you have children or pets, you may want cordless blinds for window coverings.
Budget: Granite countertops cost more than laminate countertops and custom-built cabinetry costs more than stock cabinets. There are many options out there for finishes that meet your needs for function and style, and still fit within your budget. If you find something you like but it is a little pricey for your budget, always check other sites or other options that look similar. You may also have to prioritize certain wants or needs over others. For example, deciding if it's worth getting that really expensive flooring and countertops and in return, not so expensive cabinets.

Here at Sugar Valley Builders, we have a well thought out system to help guide you through this whole process. Knowing how frustrating or scary it may seem sometimes, we like to keep you as updated and confident in your plan as possible with recurring meetings in our office. The first part of the process is coming up with a final plan that fits within your budget. We will work with you adjusting or updating anything until everything meets your wants and needs. We use a computer program to help you visualize how everything will look with your finishes. This way you can be more confident in your plan.

With the final plan done we can begin purchasing finishes. For this second stage of the process, we have spreadsheets with everything you want to purchase laid out and links of what you have chosen attached to the specific item. This way we can accurately budget out all of the finishes and easily order your items. We also do custom finishes, so if it's not possible to order something you want, we may be able to create it just for you!
